When did this start?

Sandy’s Lone Star Que4kids was started in 2014 to continue the work of Teresa Young and her passion to help with Child Abuse Prevention and Aware Central Texas. It began as a 2 day event raising just $13000 its first year. It consisted of live music from the Backroads Band, Bounce Houses and a BBQ Cookoff.

How is it going?

It has since grown into a 3 day event, consisting of live music including Country Superstar Neal McCoy and Texas artists Curtis Grimes, Pat Waters, Jenna McDaniel, Brett Hendrix, Kyrstin Baird and several local artists. It has also included The Spazmatics, 80’s tribute band and even Dueling Piano Shows. A huge part of Que4kids is our Live Auction which has featured ATV’s, Vehicles, Guns, Hunting and Fishing Trips, Spa Packages, Trailers, Sports Memorabilia, Furniture, Jewelry and much more, most of which is donated by local small businesses, sponsors and donors. Our Live Auctions have raised as much as $60,000 thru the generosity of our partners.

What else?

It also features a Sanctioned BBQ Cookoff, on which teams from all over the area and state compete for prize money and prizes. It also features the 1st in area Kids BBQ Cookoff, where kids compete each year just as adults but cooking donated Pork Chops and get to take home provided grills, aprons, shirts and more.
Que4kids has raised nearly $175,000 that has been donated to Aware Central Texas in the last 5 years. Que4kids is a part of the Exchange Club of Killeen with Bring Everyone in the Zone being our fiscal sponsor.
